Analysis - Hatchet 3 (2013) (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3: Hatchet 3 Horror Film is the third installment of the Hatchet film series. It follows the continuing adventures of Victor Crowley and his murderous rampage through Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.

The film's special effects are the film's biggest strengths. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder stands out as an intimidating villain. The cast gives an impressive performance. It feels like a slasher film from the 1980s, with the dialogue being a bit too funny and snarky. There are also moments of humor in the movie that add humor to all bloody action.

The problem is that the budget is so limited (reportedly $1 million) the majority of locations used that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from earlier films in the series. For example, the same boathouse was used twice in the film. A lot of the locations seem like they were reused from previous films in this franchise. It can feel almost familiar to those who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I (blog post) found it to be remarkably similar to other entries in this series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances by its cast.
